Travel has many rewards. As I've just been talking about food & drink, it's probably fair to recognise that a large part of the pleasure in travelling is the opportunity to sample new or different cuisine. For that matter, I'm convinced that physical location can alter your perception and enjoyment of food (the best tomato I have eaten in my life was in a tiny village high up in the Carrara mountains of Northern Italy).

Some countries I associate quite strongly with food. France is an obvious one (few things can beat fresh French bread with local cheese and wine, preferably outdoors by a river in Summer!). Italy and Thailand and Hong Kong are also places where food ranks highly, though Italy probably scores even higher with me for it's culture and way of life.

Top places in the World I would recommend:

bulletFlorence (or any of the smaller Tuscan towns)
bulletSydney and the Blue Mountains
bulletThe Great Barrier Reef - quite stunning
bulletChitwan tiger sanctuary in Nepal (we never got to see tigers in the wild, and I'm keen to go back and try again!
bulletMasai Mara game reserve
bulletAgra (for the Taj Mahal)
bulletPrague (though it's getting tackier all the time)
bulletBerlin

Next on the list:

bulletNew England
bulletCanada
